Scott was a graduate student at the Computer Science and Engineering Department at UCSD. He has focused his studies on security. His thesis explores this topic in the context of distributed computation with mobile agents. Scott worked on the Sanctuary project under Bennet S. Yee.

Having completed his masters, Scott is now working at Hotmail in Mountain View, CA.

On rare occasions his gaze shifts away from a glowing display. When this occurs he sometimes engages in activities such as walking on the beach, visiting the outstanding San Diego Zoo, or taking the occasional hike. On his own, he would ordinarily be bewildered and excitable in these strange surroundings. Thus, for his safety and that of those around him, he is usually accompanied by his sweetheart, Yekaterina Tsipenyuk . He makes every effort to create credible proof of these expeditions through brutally rigorous photographic documentation.
