During the first 5 hours, the students programmed their CodeRuler, tested it locally on their machine, and in a public practice contest. After all the final Software Bots were submitted, a qualifying contest was run where 65 CodeRulers teams competed for the top 18 spots for the finals. 6 teams competed against each other at a time on the battle field racking up points for capturing castles, claiming land, and destroying pawns and knights. During qualifying, 3 rounds were run, where each team competed once per round. At the end of the qualifying contest, the 18 teams with the most points went on to the finals. The finals where then run for 5 rounds to determine the top 10 teams for the prizes. The winning honors go to Alex Simma and Stefan Dorsett.
