CSE123A - Computer Networks

Course Objectives: This course provides an introduction to the concepts and the principles and methodologies used for the design of computer networks.
Course Description: Introduction to concepts, principles, and practice of computer communication networks with examples from existing architectures, protocols, and standards. Layering and the OSI model; swotching; local, metropolitan, and wide area networks; datagrams and virtual circuits; routing and congestion control; internetworking.
Format: 3 hours of lecture per week, 1 hour discussion section per week, 3 hours of computer lab and 5 hours of outside preparation.
Prerequisites: CSE 141.
Other restrictions: Majors only. Not to be taken for credit if credit has been received for ECE 158A,B.

Laboratory work: Programming project.
