Under supervision of the Financial Affairs Manager, responsible for financial assistance to faculty, staff, students and visitors (approximately 75 academic personnel, 50 career/casual staff, 352 graduate students, UG students as required and 10-20 visitors annually) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). Prepares proposals, monitors expenses, and prepares monthly financial statements. Advises Faculty on the fiscal status of accounts and makes recommendations to resolve fiscal issues. CSE administers over 250 separately budgeted federal, state and private accounts totaling over $22,000,000 and employs 360 academic, staff and student personnel. Incumbent directly supports 35-40 academic personnel. Administers purchasing activities, responsible for the placing, tracking and reconciliation of purchase orders and independently resolving problems with vendors and purchasing. Serves as primary contact for financial transactions, including travel advances and vouchers, disbursements and other transactions. Work with Administrative Specialist to provide extramural fund administration to department PIs. Acts as liaison with OCGA, OPAFS, General Accounting, OGSR and other central campus departments. Assists Financial Manager with the administration of the department's intramural and revenue funds. Orients new employees and provide advice to faculty and staff on policies and procedures as they relate to purchasing and financial/accounting administration. Also responsible for assisting department Human Resources office with personnel and payroll functions for entire department, including recruitment, on-line PPS entry and on-line timekeeping/payroll. Reviews financial and payroll documents for accuracy and conformance with University and department regulations. Maintains Technical Recharge System database, submit monthly report on the Technical Recharge Online Billing System. Monitors the permanent departmental and extramural funds allocated to provide computing support to the department faculty, researchers and staff. |

Choon Kim, Ph.D., has 20+ years experience in digital ASIC design in wireless communications. He worked at companies including Qualcomm, General Instrument, PCSI and Intergraph Corporations. Currently he is working as a Senior Development Engineer at the CSE Dept. of UCSD developing an Advanced Embedded System Laboratory for research and education. He also has been teaching a LAB-based practical embedded system design course in the UCSD extension program for local engineers. |

Advises on feasibility of electronic solutions and provides alternate viable solutions. Supervises lab assistants in instructional computing and research labs. Schedules and performs lab hardware upgrades and maintenance. Responsible for analyzing problems and determining corrective solutions involving complex electronic computing systems and networking equipment, completing repairs and/or modifications of existing equipment. Also responsible for high-level facilities planning as it relates to the department computing and electronic resources (in instructional and computer labs, academic and administrative offices), ensuring laboratory security and overall departmental safety. |
