CSE240 - Principles in Computer Architecture I (Renumbered to CSE 240A - Fall 2002)

Course Description: Architectural description tools, performance evaluation, uniprocessor issues, including I-unit and E-unit concepts. RISC/CISC issues, bottlenecks, I/O channels and processors. micro- and nano-programming, memory hierarchy, virtual machines, high-level language machines. Performance enhancements: pipelining, instruction lookahead, branch prediction, reduced semantic dependencies.
Prerequisites: CSE 141 or consent of instructor.
