You may decide that the Barracuda's decision to mark messages
scoring 5 or higher doesn't catch enough spam. If you'd like to
additionally file messages with a Barracuda Spam Score of lower than
5, you can set up additional rules in your mail client. Cautionary Note Please be careful when deciding to filter
at a lower score than the Barradua uses to mark spam. By doing so,
you increase the chances that a legitimate email message will get
filtered away from your inbox. If you do filter at lower scores, we
strongly suggest that you do this to a different folder (like
"Spam-Maybe") than the folder you use for the rest of your
spam. Due to the limitations of mail clients, we'll basically have to
create a seperate rule for each whole-number score below 5 which we
desire to filter mail on. Following the instructions for your
particular mail client (see here), you will go through
basically the same steps as for the main filtering rule, with two
differences.
- First, we will use the header
"X-Barracuda-Spam-Score" instead of
"X-Barracuda-Spam-Status".
- Next, we need to specify the lower score we want to catch,
i.e., "4", instead of "Yes".
- Finally, we need to create a new rule for every additional
score number we wish to filter email for. For example, if
you want to filter anything scoring "2" or higher,
you will need to create a seperate rule for each of 4, 3 and
2.
Procmail For users of procmail filtering mail on the
server, an example is already provided in the procmail instructions document. A
number of example solutions are provided at the end of this
document. Outlook Follow the same procedure as outlined here, but when you enter in a value for
"Search Text", you will want to use
"X-Barraduca-Spam-Score: 4". Thunderbird Follow the same procedure as outlined here, replacing
"X-Barracuda-Spam-Status" with
"X-Barracuda-Spam-Score wherever you see it. Also, you
will put "4" in the text area instead of "Yes",
next to the selection box which says "begins with". Apple Mail Follow the same procedure as outlined here, replacing
"X-Barracuda-Spam-Status" with
"X-Barracuda-Spam-Score wherever you see it. Also, you
will put "4" in the text area instead of "Yes",
next to the selection box which says "begins with". |
