Forwarding Mail

If you do not log in to CSEHelp systems to check mail often, and you don't remotely retreive and delete mail, you may want to forward all mail sent to your @cs address to another account you check more often.

Forwarding on Zimbra (csemailbox.ucsd.edu)
Department members who have their email accounts on the new Zimbra mail system (csemailbox.ucsd.edu) can change their forwarding address via the Zimbra web client.

  • Log in to the Zimbra web client.
  • Click on the "Options" tab in the Zimbra web client.
  • In the Options pane, click on the "Mail" tab.
  • In the third section of the Mail page, be sure that "Address to forward mail to" has a valid email address that will accept messages.
  • If you wish to only forward, and not keep messages in your CSE account, enable (mark as checked) the checkbox for "Don't keep a local copy of messages".
  • Click the "Save" button near the top of the page.

Once you hit Save, the changes will immediately take effect.

Forwarding on Unix mail servers (csefast, csegrad, cseguest)
To do this, simply create a file called .forward in your home directory that contains the address(es) you want to forward mail to. Be sure your home directory is not world writable, otherwise the forward will not work (for security reasons).
